A wonderfully elegant vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre ladies’ watch, dating to circa 1960 and crafted in 9ct gold with a beautifully unusual integrated bracelet.

This is a particularly charming example of the petite cocktail watches produced by Jaeger-LeCoultre during the mid-century period, when ladies’ watches were designed to combine fine Swiss watchmaking with the appearance and craftsmanship of fine jewellery.

The beautifully proportioned 15.5mm circular case is framed by sculptural fan-shaped shoulders that flow seamlessly into an intricate articulated gold bracelet. Fine horizontal links graduate away from the case, creating an almost architectural design that sits beautifully around the wrist.

The silvered dial has been professionally restored and presents beautifully, with elegant Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9, applied gold hour markers and matching gold hands. The restrained dial design complements the more decorative bracelet perfectly and gives the watch a wonderfully authentic mid-century appearance.

Rather unusually, the winding crown is discreetly positioned on the reverse of the case, leaving the circular profile beautifully uninterrupted when viewed on the wrist. This concealed rear-winding arrangement can be found on a number of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s petite ladies’ watches from the late 1950s and early 1960s. A documented 1959 example uses a rear-winding JLC calibre 426/2 within a similarly petite 16.25mm gold case.

Inside is a traditional Jaeger-LeCoultre manual-wind mechanical movement, which has been fully serviced by our independent horologist and is ready to wear.

Despite its wonderfully delicate proportions, the watch has a substantial overall weight of approximately 25 grams, reflecting the amount of gold within its integrated bracelet construction. The bracelet fits a wrist of approximately 16–16.5cm and is finished with a clasp and additional safety chain.

The combination of petite mechanical watch and elaborate gold bracelet makes this as much a piece of vintage fine jewellery as a wristwatch. Similar solid-gold Jaeger-LeCoultre ladies’ watches from this period were deliberately designed with integral bracelets that flowed around the wrist rather than resembling a conventional watch strap.

A beautiful piece of mid-century Jaeger-LeCoultre and a wonderful example of the increasingly sought-after small vintage gold watches that feel remarkably elegant worn today.
