Vintage 1972 Rolex Precision 18ct White Gold Diamond Cocktail Watch

A beautiful and unusually complete 1972 Rolex Precision ladies’ cocktail watch, crafted in solid 18ct white gold and set with approximately 0.44ct of diamonds, accompanied by its original box and remarkable original purchase paperwork.

The petite round case is framed by a diamond-set bezel, surrounding a silvered sunburst dial with applied baton hour markers, Rolex coronet and the classic Rolex Precision signature. Further diamonds are individually set into the bracelet immediately above and below the case, giving the watch the appearance of a fine diamond bracelet while retaining the understated proportions of a vintage Rolex cocktail watch.

Inside is the signed Rolex calibre 1400, an 18-jewel mechanical manual-wind movement used in Rolex’s small Precision watches of this period. Comparable circa-1970 examples are documented with the same calibre. 

The watch is accompanied by its original German purchase receipt and guarantee dated 18 February 1972. Particularly nicely, the original receipt records the watch as 750 gold and states “Brill. 0,44 ct”, providing period documentation for approximately 0.44ct of diamonds.

The integral white-gold bracelet has a beautifully textured herringbone-style finish and is suitable for a wrist of approximately 16–16.5cm. The watch weighs approximately 18.3g gross.

Fully serviced and ready to wear, this is a lovely example of the jewellery watches Rolex was producing during the early 1970s, made considerably more special by its surviving original box and dated paperwork.
