Cartier Tank Solo 3170 Stainless Steel Pink Dial Watch | 2012

A beautiful and rather unusual Cartier Tank Solo, reference 3170, dating to 2012 and featuring a wonderfully distinctive pink sunburst dial.

The Tank is one of the most recognisable watch designs ever created, and this example offers a lovely variation on the traditional Cartier aesthetic. Its softly coloured pink dial changes subtly with the light, framed by bold black Roman numerals, Cartier’s signature chemin-de-fer minute track and elegant blued-steel sword-shaped hands.

The classic rectangular stainless-steel case measures approximately 31 × 24mm, giving the watch the wonderfully elegant proportions associated with the Tank while still having enough presence to work beautifully as an everyday watch.

The familiar Cartier details are all here, including the polished vertical brancards, screwed caseback and beaded crown finished with its blue cabochon. The watch is protected by sapphire crystal. These specifications are consistent with documented reference 3170 examples from this period.

Inside is the Cartier calibre 157 quartz movement, a four-jewel Swiss quartz calibre used within this generation of the Tank Solo. A new battery has recently been fitted, and the watch is ready to wear.

The watch is currently fitted to a classic black leather strap and finished with a Cartier stainless-steel deployant clasp, allowing the strap to sit neatly around the wrist while retaining the elegant profile of the Tank.

Also included is an additional red Cartier strap, a particularly lovely pairing with the pink dial and a great way of completely changing the character of the watch. The red strap shows some previous wear, as visible in the photographs.

Dating to 2012, this example is accompanied by its Cartier presentation box and Cartier booklet.

A wonderfully chic example of the Tank Solo and a particularly appealing choice for someone looking beyond the traditional white or silver Cartier dial. The combination of the pink dial, blue hands and interchangeable black and red straps gives this watch considerably more personality while retaining the unmistakable simplicity of the Tank.
